‘Abandoned’ baby birds

Posted by Abigail on 09/06/08, filed under Wildlife |

As we have mentioned here on the blog before, we have been inundated with baby birds recently and in particular baby seagulls. Some of these have not been injured, but appeared to have been abandoned by their parents having maybe fallen out of the nest.

If you see a baby seagull or any bird who seems to have been abandoned, it is probably not the case and its parents will be feeding and watching over it. Rather than immediately bring it to us, if you are are able to do so, check the bird for any obvious injuries. If it looks to be healthy and uninjured, please put it back where you found it or very nearby, preferably high up on a flat garage roof or conservatory. Keep an eye on it for 24 hours. If the parents have not come back for it by then, bring it to Grove Lodge’s hospital in Broadwater, Worthing. Please telephone first on 01903 234866.
