Katie Cat’s Story

My name is Katie Cat. I am around 12 years old and dark tortie and white. I found my current home through Worthing and District Animal Rescue Service when my previous owner became ill, had to go into hospital and sadly died. I was used to being loved, but not everyone wants to take on an older cat like me and so I was very pleased to find another home straight away!
My first experience of the vets was to have my vaccinations and a microchip – not too sure I liked either of those, but they were better than catching nasty illnesses and being lost!
The vet discovered I had plaque on my teeth, so I had a dental the following week. My teeth were cleaned and a bad one removed, so my mouth felt much better. My owner now gives me special toothpaste to keep my teeth clean and healthy. At the same time as the dental, the nurses took some blood and tests revealed I have some problems with my kidneys. For the time being, a special diet will keep me well, but it is possible I will need regular medication in the future so need frequent check ups.
I have to live indoors as I am quite a senior citizen and also very hard of hearing. I do not like a lot of fuss, but do like to have a play with my toys every now and then! My favourite pastimes are eating and sleeping and my fleece blanket in the sunshine is the best spot for a snooze. I also like to sit beside my new owner, Abigail, and watch television in the evening.
I am very happy to have a new home with someone who loves me and ensures I stay in good health. An older cat like me is usually happy with a warm comfy bed, nice food and clean water. Why not have a look at the other older WADARS feline residents who need a place to live out their twilight years in comfort. Their website address is www.wadars.co.uk.

Very nice post. I have 3 elderly cats who are each very individual in their needs. If I had more room I’d visit the Worthing animal rescue and take in more.
[...] is a rather nice blog post I’ve read at the Grove Lodge vets blog regarding caring for older cats: Katie Cats Story A nice post I think and maybe it will encourage a few people to consider homing older [...]
What a lovely post. Our cats are elderly but they’re still great fun. They love to play and they seem to be getting more and more affectionate with age. It’s good to be able to give them a safe, warm home - I’d recommend an older cat to anyone.
I think Ms Cat is very lucky to have found you, although you could be accused of cruelty to tarantulas.
