Our promotion for January

I was watching a programme on BBC on Sunday, during which a sheepdog trainer was talking about his talented dog Skerry who tragically had been run over a few years ago. She had been terrified by a loud firework being let off near her home, jumped a high fence and, panic stricken, ran out into the road and was hit by a car. Her owner was very upset as he felt he had let her down and failed to keep her safe, even though it was the fault of the person who carelessly let off the firework too near animals.
However, given that we do live in a society where fireworks are very popular, it is very important to ensure your dog can accept sudden loud bangs, hisses and flashes that come with fireworks.
Whether or not your dog has an existing firework phobia, or if you want to start teaching your dog about fireworks, it is a good idea to give yourself plenty of time before the firework season is upon us again.
During January 2010, Grove Lodge is offering a free half hour consultation with one of our Practice Nurses to help you and your dog with fireworks. Please call 01903 234866 to arrange an appointment.
