Dangerous dogs? Or dangerous owners??

If you were watching the BBC Breakfast programme this morning, you would have seen the Home Secretary, Alan Johnson, discussing so-called ‘dangerous dogs’ and proposed new legislation currently under discussion.

Part of that legislation would include compulsory insurance and microchipping for all dogs, ensuring a level of accountability which is, at present, woefully lacking. The prospect of reintroducing dog licences was also discussed.

The RSPCA has been calling for a serious debate on this subject for a long time.

However, cynics argue that the individuals who are too stupid and irresponsible to ensure their dog is correctly trained and therefore properly cared for are not going to adhere to the law and get insurance.

My personal opinion is that it’s the owner and not the dogs who need more education, but that this legislation is a good place to start – what do you think?

Grove Lodge can microchip your dog for less than £17 – call your local branch today to book an appointment.
