If you were watching the news this morning, you might have heard the piece regarding the latest RSPCA figures. The RSPCA reports an increase in convictions for dog cruelty of more than a third. This, however, is not necessarily an indication of an increase in cruelty, but could reflect the effectiveness of the new Animal Welfare Act.
Read more on this story on the BBC website at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7531095.stm
and on the RSPCA website at http://www.rspca.co.uk/servlet/Satellite?pagename=RSPCA/RSPCARedirect&pg=NewsFeature&marker=1.
The beautiful boy pictured above is Rocky, a German Shepherd whose previous owners were prosecuted and banned from keeping animals for five years – it’s hard to believe he’s the same dog in both pictures. Thank you to the RSPCA website for the photo. He is now looking for a loving new home. Check out the link below for more details:

Pictured right is beautiful Loki, enjoying the sunshine. To make sure you enjoy the sun as much as Loki is, just a few quick reminders (further to our previous posts http://blog.grovelodge.co.uk/page/8/), to ensure you and your pets stay safe in the sun.
Make sure your pets have access to shade and fresh water at all times.
Always walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when the sun has gone down.
NEVER EVER leave your pet in a hot car, even for just a few minutes. Heatstroke can occur in a very short space of time and can be fatal. If you suspect your pet has heatstroke, drench it with cool water and wet towels and take it to the vet IMMEDIATELY.
If you are having a BBQ, make sure all bones, corn on the cob kernels and kebab sticks are kept well out of your pet’s reach to avoid the danger of choking.
We will be featuring Loki soon on the blog as she is a very unusual breed – a Dorset Bulldog – and is looking for a new home. Could you be the new owners this loving young dog is looking for? Take a look at www.wadars.co.uk

Now where did I put the sun cream …?!
